If they hadn’t almost hit that dock, Catherine figured she would have had sex with Wesley right there on that boat.

She hadn’t felt that sexy since before Michael died. Even the few times she’d had sex in the last few years, it wasn’t earth-shattering. It didn’t make her a big pile of mush like it used to. Of course, that had been with the love of her life.

Her husband.

But that kiss with Wesley knocked her socks off and sent all her nerve endings on a mission to find some electricity. Her insides burned with desire.

“Your phone has buzzed four or five times since we left my dock,” Wesley said as he parked his truck in her driveway. “It might be Dylan or Kinsley with labor news.”

“If she were in labor, your phone would be going off too.” And her phone had actually gone off maybe ten times during their date. But she had been doing her best to ignore it since she knew it wasn’t her family. When she first set up the app, she made sure to make the vibration different from her email and her text, that way she’d know the buzzing wasn’t her kids or grandkids.

He yanked his from the holder on the dashboard and tapped the screen. “Nothing. Maybe it’s one of your other kids with an issue.”

“They know I’m on a date with you. If they don’t reach me after the second text, they would be calling you or showing up at my house. Just the way those boys roll.”

“That’s true.” He laced his fingers through hers as they walked side by side up her porch steps.

She had to admit, she was now slightly relieved that things had slowed way down. Having sex with Wesley on the first date would be a mistake. Getting too involved too quickly with Wesley would be an even bigger mistake.

They were about to become grandparents together, and the last thing this family needed was negative tension if Catherine and Wesley did become an item and then broke up down the road.

She had to know without a shadow of a doubt that Wesley was the right choice. That she wasn’t trying to relive her marriage to Michael, because that wouldn’t be fair to herself.

Much less Wesley.

And there was only one way to do that.

Go out with James again.

But she wasn’t about to tell Wesley that. Or her kids. Her love life wasn’t any of their damn business. And if they tried to pull that shit about how she always meddled, well, that was different. They kept trying to tell her they weren’t cut out for love, marriage, and family life.

Even though they were.

And she at least knew that at the end of the day, she was ready to open her soul and give love a shot again, with the right man. However, she wasn’t sold that Wesley was it, no matter what her heart kept trying to tell her.

She turned and faced Wesley. “I really had a good time tonight. Thank you.
